Making Memories With Your Family By Attending Air Shows

February 14, 2010

I am a big believer in making memories with your family by doing fun activities. This is true for the couple by themselves but especially true for children. It is a form of bonding. It gives kids life long memories to retreat to when times get tough. It enables them to escape and return to those happy familiar times and helps them take a little mental vacation. It is a critical part of their development.

In these tough economic times, it is imperative for families to find free or inexpensive entertainment. This is the beauty of going to air shows. They are free on military bases. They are very low cost elsewhere. I have never seen a ticket in excess of $8 per adult and the parking is free. Another savings is that most air shows allow you to bring in coolers loaded with food and drinks. This is one of the few venues that will allow this.

There are air shows all over the country. You can see them advertised in your local newspaper. You can also track them online. The kids will be amazedĀ at all of theĀ static displays of aircraft on the ground, They will be even more amazed at the aerial displays of aerobatics as pilots put the planes through their paces doing things that you don’t know was possible in an airplane.

Usually an air show is an all day experience and there are over about 25 acres so there is a ton of room for the kids to run and play and get totally exhausted by the end of the day. I predict that it will be so much fun that you make it an annual ritual with your family. Be sure to have everyone doused in suncreen.

Finally, it is worth the trip to make the pilgrimage to Oshkosh Wisconsin. It is the home of the Experimental Aircraft Assn. It is the second largest air show in the world. They have a great aircraft museum on site that is included in your ticket admission price.
